The Causes Of Bearing Noise

  • 1. If the bearing is in a good state of continuous rotation, it will emit a low whine or buzzing sound. If there is a sharp hiss, squeak and other irregular sounds, it often indicates that the bearing is in a poor continuous rotation condition. The sharp squeaking noise may be caused by improper lubrication. Inappropriate bearing clearance can also cause metallic noise.
  • 2. The dent on the bearing outer ring track will cause vibration and cause a smooth and crisp sound.
  • 3. If there is intermittent noise, it means that the rolling parts may be damaged. This sound occurs when the damaged surface is rolled over, if there are contaminants in the bearing, it will often cause a hissing sound. Severe bearing damage will produce irregular and loud noises.
  • 4. If it is caused by knocking scars during installation, noise will also be generated, which will vary with the speed of the bearing.

According to other characteristics of noise, it can be divided into large metal noise, regular noise and irregular noise.

Metal noise

  • Reason 1: Abnormal load, countermeasures: correct the fit, study the bearing clearance, adjust and load, and correct the position of the housing shoulder.
  • Reason 2: Poor installation, countermeasures: machining accuracy of shaft and housing, improve installation accuracy and installation method.
  • Reason 3: Insufficient or unsuitable lubricant. Countermeasure: Replenish lubricant and select appropriate lubricant.
  • Reason 4: The rotating parts are in contact. Countermeasures: modify the contact part of the curved seal.

Regular noise

  • Reason 1: Indentation, corrosion or scars on the rolling surface caused by foreign matter. Countermeasures: Replace the bearing, clean the relevant parts, improve the sealing device, and use a clean lubricant.
  • Reason 2: (after steel carburization) surface deformation, countermeasure: replace the bearing, pay attention to its use.
  • Reason 3: the raceway surface is peeled off, countermeasure: replace the bearing.

Irregular noise

  • Reason 1: The clearance is too large. Countermeasures: Study the fit and bearing clearance, and modify the preload.
  • Reason 2: foreign matter intrusion, countermeasures: study the replacement of bearings, clean the relevant parts, improve the sealing device, and use clean lubricants.
  • Reason 3: Spherical surface injury, peeling, countermeasure: replace the bearing.

Twenty common causes of bearing noise

  • 1. The grease has impurities;
  • 2. Insufficient lubrication (the oil level is too low, improper storage causes oil or grease to leak through the seal);
  • 3. The clearance of the bearing is too small or too large (problem of the manufacturer);
  • 4. Impurities such as sand or carbon particles are mixed into the bearing to act as an abrasive;
  • 5. The bearing is mixed with water, acid or paint and other dirt, which has a corrosive effect;
  • 6. The bearing is clamped flat by the seat hole (the roundness of the seat hole is not good, or the seat hole is twisted and not straight);
  • 7. The pad iron on the bottom surface of the bearing seat is not flat (causing deformation of the seat hole and even cracks in the bearing seat);
  • 8. There are sundries in the bearing seat hole (residual chips, dust particles, etc.);
  • 9. The sealing ring is eccentric (touching adjacent parts and causing friction);
  • 10. The bearing is subjected to extra load (the bearing is tight in the axial direction, or there are two fixed-end bearings on a shaft);
  • 11. The fit between the bearing and the shaft is too loose (the diameter of the shaft is too small or the adapter sleeve is not tightened);
  • 12. The clearance of the bearing is too small, and it is too tight during rotation (the adapter sleeve is too tight);
  • 13. The bearing is noisy (caused by the end face of the roller or the steel ball slipping);
  • 14. The thermal elongation of the shaft is too large (the bearing is subjected to statically indeterminate axial additional load);
  • 15. The shaft shoulder is too large (touching the bearing seal and causing friction);
  • 16. The shoulder of the seat hole is too large (the seal of the bearing is distorted);
  • 17. The gap of the labyrinth seal is too small (friction occurs with the shaft);
  • 18. The teeth of the lock washer are bent (touch the bearing and cause friction);
  • 19. The position of the oil slinger is not suitable (touching the flange cover and causing friction);
  • 20. There are pressure pits on the steel ball or roller (caused by hitting the bearing with a hammer during installation);

The correct storage method of bearings

  • 1. Keep the original packaging and do not open it arbitrarily. If the packaging is found to be damaged, it must be opened and cleaned carefully, and the packaging must be re-oiled.
  • 2. The relative humidity of the storage room should not exceed 60%, and the temperature difference should not be too large. The bearings in the original packaging can be stored for several years. Sealed bearings or bearings with dust covers, after long-term storage, the lubrication characteristics of the grease filled in the bearings may be reduced.
  • 3. The storage room should also be anti-vibration and shaking. Bearings that are not stored in the original packaging should be properly stored. It is strictly forbidden to put the bearings together with corrosive things to prevent corrosion and pollution.
  • 4. When storing large rolling bearings, they can only be placed flat, and the sides of the inner and outer rings should all be supported. If stored upright, the inner and outer rings and rolling parts are heavier, and the inner and outer ring walls are relatively thin, which may cause permanent deformation.
