The main feature of the flow mark of the die casting is that the surface of the casting presents a smooth pattern of partial depression that is consistent with the flow direction of the molten metal and can be felt by hand. Flow mark defects have no development direction and can be removed by polishing methods.
How do the flow marks of die castings occur?
Analysis of several reasons for flow marks:
Traces left by two metal streams filling the cavity out of sync;
Low mold temperature, such as zinc alloy mold temperature <150°C and aluminum alloy mold temperature <180°C, are prone to such defects;
The filling speed is too high;
Excessive amount of paint.
How to eliminate flow mark defects in die castings?
Solution:
Adjust the cross-sectional area or position of the gate;
Adjust the mold temperature and enlarge the overflow groove;
Properly adjust the filling speed to change the fluid state of the molten metal filling cavity;
The coating is thin and uniform.
